Chinijo Archipelago

Chinijo Archipelago

It is called «Chinijo Archipelago » to the group of islets formed by La Graciosa, Alegranza and Clara Mountain, along with the Roque del Este and Roque del Oeste or Hell.

They are located North of Lanzarote, on a submarine platform of less than 100m deep, although at some points it can reach 200 m., as happens between Lanzarote and the Roque del Este.

It covers an area of 19,270 hectares and legally belongs to the municipality of Teguise.

Only in La Graciosa, there is permanent population of about 500 inhabitants, dedicated mostly to fishing and although little by little tourism is gaining ground.

It has the protected areas of the Los Islotes Integral Natural Reserve and the Chinijo Archipelago Natural Park also formed along with impressive Risco de Famara. The park became a protected space in 1986 and was reclassified and recognized as a area of special protection for birds in 1994.

The Maritime Reserve of the Chinijo Archipelago is a unique enclave, ideal for the practice of diving and observing species that we will not be able to see anywhere else in the Canary Islands.
