This area was declared NaturalPark on August 9, 1974. The Park Board of Governors was the collaborator organ to manage the park and it is under supervision of the Plan Rector de Uso y Gestion (Usage and Management Superior Plan).
An area comprised of 5,107 hectares, with a 30 km. perimeter and is 540 m. maximum high. It is located between Yaiza and Tinajo municipal boundary.
The eruption nucleus of 1730-1736 constituted, for this type of eruptions, one of the most important volcanologic spaces in the world. One can observe the greatest different structure varieties in lava and structures. It can be localized more than 25 craters in a reduced area of a few square km.
Likewise, its great differences with the rest of recent eruptions of the archipelago can attract attention, so in length of time as in volume and composition of lava thrown out the surface.
This Park possesses a series of facilities and services that will make more suitable and educational your visit. By reaching the Park from Yaiza you will find in first place "Echadero of the Camellos", where the Museum of Rocks and an Information Office are located. There is also a bar, a souvenirs store and toilets, all underground facilities. A trip with camels is offered in this place to travel through the south hillside of the Timanfaya.
Taro de Entrada is located following the highway that leads to the tourist facilities "Montaña del Fuego" in Islote de Hilario. Restaurant, bar, souvenirs stores, toilets and parking are located in this place. The Park personnel will give you demonstrations on the geothermal anomalies described previously.
From here you can go to the so-called "Ruta de los Volcanes" (Route of the Volcanoes). Through a 14 km highway, the more sensational areas ofthe Park can be crossed. The only way of making this journey possible is on the "guagua" (bus) of the Town council. The Visitors and Interpretation Centre of Mancha Blanca can be found continuing toward the municipality of Tinajo. This free access centre has a permanent exhibition equipped with constructional panels, interactive videos, scale models, scientific instrumental booths, library, as well as an exceptional poly-language audio-visual program
